It takes several years to iteratively develop a standard consisting of a set of technical specifications for several decades of operation. These asymmetries have significantly increased over the past 10 years with the growing complexity of the geotechnological landscape and the dynamics associated with the forces at play. More than ever, bodies can no longer be considered within a limited scope, in a siloed manner. Today, we need to consider technological platforms that aggregate multiple technologies to serve multiple vertical uses. It is therefore rarely a single body, committee, or working group that needs to be considered. More generally, it is complex ecosystems that must be tackled holistically, in terms of both their structure and their dynamics, both horizontally and vertically. For this reason, it is no longer enough to talk about technical monitoring of standardization activities. It is more a question of strategic foresight and intelligence on an ecosystemic, socio-technological, and economic scale. Understanding this complexity is fundamental in terms of return on investment performance and roadmap management. Decisions and management of investment in standardization must be informed, in conjunction with those in research and innovation, including technology transfer and knowledge management over time. <\/p>\n
